Department Divisions: School Resource

The Belchertown Police Department established the School Resource Officer position in 1997. The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a sworn member of the Belchertown Police Department.  The SRO is assigned full time to the Belchertown Public Schools.

The main goal of a SRO position is to prevent juvenile delinquency. This is accomplished by promoting positive relationships between law enforcement and youth. The SRO serves as a law enforcement officer, teacher, role model, counselor, and advocate for teachers students, and families.  The SRO brings personalized policing to the families, students and staff that make up the Belchertown Schools. He is an easily recognizable and approachable resource for students.

Currently, Patrol Officer Jason Krol is assigned to the position of Resource Officer. Officer Krol is a native of Belchertown, having graduated from what is now Jabish Brook Middle School.  In addition to serving as School Resource Officer, he serves as the town’s D.A.R.E. Officer, a  R.A.D. instructor and simulator, a R.A.D. Kids instructor, and a Child Passenger Safety Seat technician. Officer Krol  is proud to serve the residents and more importantly the students of  his hometown.
