Auxiliary Division

The Belchertown Police Department is looking to appoint interested individuals as Auxiliary Police Officers.  The volunteer officers assist with the functions of the department along with receiving training for possible further advancement.

Applicants must have successfully completed the Reserve/Intermittent or Basic Recruit Training programs, be at least 21 years old, have an educational equivalency of a high school diploma, have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and a Massachusetts Class A license to carry a firearm.  Applicants must also be currently certified in CPR and First Aid.

Auxiliary Officers assist with Patrol Functions which include some of the following responsibilities:

  • Traffic enforcement
  • Motor vehicle crash response
  • Bike patrols
  • Foot patrols
  • Escort and peace-keeping details
  • Emergency call response
  • Medical emergencies response
  • Burglar alarm response
  • Commercial and residential building checks
  • Domestic violence intervention
  • Preliminary investigations
  • Crisis management
